Property Books Exchange

DBX is an integrated ASP-based system to enable the delivery of property ebooks (and subsidiary rights) with variable levels of protection to education, business and consumers on a free and fee basis.

Just as MP3 distribution has created a revolution in the music market, the Internet has the potential to allow authors, journalists, academics and researchers to find new, relatively direct, methods to develop and reach new markets, even if these markets are dispersed throughout the world. However the technical complexity and the marketing involved in creating this sort of service is too much for most authors and publishers. DBX provides a range of solutions ranging from a low cost ASP service to complete in-house turn-key system for the larger publishers.

DBX is a complete JAVA-based content, web and eCommerce server that allows ebooks in a number of formats to be sold to customers. It supports multiple types of usages, some of which are free, some are for fee, based on the requirements of the rights owner and the type of user. It applies copyright enforcement technologies if required, such as dynamic watermarking or secure locking at the time of purchase (via pdf).

As it can manage complex layers of owners in a particular work (layers of rights holders) and its various sub-components, DBX can directly pay each of them based on the type of sales being made of a work. For instance a single digital book might have 10 chapters. Each chapter may have two authors and an illustrator. A purchase of the whole digital book might require paying up to 10 or 20 rights holders including the editor and digital publisher. The purchase of one particular chapter may only need 5 rights holder to be paid. DBX is able to track all of these elements and ensure that all the parties are appropriately recognised and rewarded.
